Anti-Spam Technologies Review - Part 4
Disposable Email Address
This is actually not a spam blocker or spam filter, but an method used to reduce the chance of getting spam. This technology requires that users give a different email address every time that users need to give out an address. To do so, users usually need to register a new email address with a third party email service. When users need to give out email, they will give out this third party email address without revealing their own email address. Moreover, a random yet easily identifying suffix or prefix should be added to this the email address to make it unique. Email sent to this address will then be forwarded to users original email box. The specific email address will be shut down after it receives a pre-determine amount of email unless the user decides otherwise.
Pros: It can reduce the chances that an email address will be revealed and thus reduces the chances of receiving spam mail.
Cons: It's not convenient to give a different address every time. And it does nothing to stop spam sent to users original email address directly. As the longer your email address exists, the more spam it's likely to get. It's quite impossible not to reveal your email address in any circumstance. Therefore, this technology can be used as a complimentary anti-spam method, but it can't be a silver-bullet anti spam solution.
